Newborn/Infant Bath Time Must Haves

Slide11. Infant Bath Tub 2. Wash Cloths 3. Shampoo 4. Lotion 5. Body Wash 6. Hooded Towels

1. Infant bath tub – We used the Summer Infant Bath Center. The key to an infant bath tub is to have a sling so that your newborn/infant can comfortably lay in it without slipping while you bathe them.

2. Wash clothes – We love all Aiden and Anais products, so I got these. But we also have some from pottery barn that are great as well!

3. Infant Shampoo – I love all Mustela products because they use natural ingredients so we used the Mustela Foam Shampoo for Newborns. I actually used this for months until it finally ran out.

4. Body lotion – After each bath, I give Layla a “baby massage” to help calm her and also lock in all the moisture from her bath. I use the Mustela Hydra-Bebe Body lotion. It leaves her skin so soft; smelling so fresh and clean.

5. Body Wash – I really like the Mustela Dermo Cleansing because it has a great lather with natural ingredients. Doesn’t dry the skin out.

6. Hooded towels – We have a bunch from pottery barn. I love the simple Nursery Critter Wraps because they absorb the water well, but Nursery Fur Critter Bath Wraps are so cute and cozy! And of course, Aiden and Anais makes great soft muslin hooded towels. The most important thing is to get hooded towels so you can dry that little head and ears.

When Is It OK For My Toddler To Watch TV?

elmoWe are surrounded by media…whether its TV, computers, phones, or video games, it is hard to avoid. The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends TV and other forms of media entertainment be avoided in children under the age of 2. The biggest concern is that in the first couple years of life, a childs brain is rapidly developing and they learn more by interacting as opposed to being sedentary watching the television.

Well our household made it to the age of 1, but we are still trying! Up until Layla turned one, we almost never ever had the TV on during her waking hours, but starting her first birthday, my husband really wanted her to watch cartoons with him. Since, on weekend mornings only, they watch 10 minutes together and she’s quickly over it! This morning I thought I would give it a try and let her watch Sesame Street. I figured its educational and may keep her put in one place for more than 30 seconds?!? Well she actually loved it! I think because she loves her Elmo doll and he was basically on the TV talking to her. We watched for a few minutes then quickly got side tracked with our tea party!

Recipe: Easy Breakfast

Breakfast seems to be a favorite in our household, but sometimes (or a lot of times) we are in a rush, so making eggs, pancakes and the whole shebang is not an option. Oatmeal is quick and easy…under 5 minutes. Bring half a cup of organic rolled oats to a boil (sometimes I add some milk as well) and let it simmer for a few minutes. The time it takes to cook varies depending on the brand of oats you buy. Top off with small bites of your favorite fruit. We usually do strawberries, blackberries, blueberries or bananas. Top it all off with a sprinkle of cinnamon and enjoy with your little one. Mommy tested, Layla approved. IMG_4558 IMG_4509 IMG_4521

Home Pharmacy Must Haves

Slide21. A&D Ointment 2. Motrin Infant Drops 3. Infants Tylenol 4. Carlson Vitamin D Drops 5. Nose Frida

A&D Ointment is great to use at the first sign of a diaper rash. By the next diaper change, the rash already looks better.

Motrin and Tylenol are important to have in case your little one comes down with a fever, whether it’s from a cold or vaccines, you do not want to be running to the drug store when your baby is sick.

Carlson Vitamin D drops are great for breastfed babies because vitamin D is poorly passed through breast milk. Infants should have apx 400 IU of vitamin D daily and these drops are perfect because you get all of that in one drop. You can put a drop on your nipple and nurse or on your bottle nipple.

The Nose Frida is great when your little ones nose is stuffed up. Loosen up those boogies with a warm bath or saline drops then use the Frida to get them out.

Happy First Birthday!

Layla_043I can’t believe our little girl is already one years old. This last year has truly been the most amazing year of our lives…yes there were many sleepless nights and there still are, but we couldn’t ask for anything more. Our little love bug, you make our family complete. You have brought pure joy and love to all of our lives. Each day I fall more in love with you. I never imagined I could love anyone the way I love you. I love you so much my little mini-me.

Happy Halloween

FamHalloweenLast minute I wanted us to have matching Halloween costumes so I ordered Layla a little bunny and the hubs a carrot costume.  At first the hubs wasn’t too excited to dress up as a carrot but he got so many compliments while we were trick-o-treating he ended up loving it ;-)! Hope you all had a happy and safe Halloween!

No More K Cups

I just saw this interesting post on Facebook from another blog (The Mommy Illuminati) about K-Cups and their potential danger to our health. So many of us, including myself, drink our morning coffee from the quick and easy K Cups but looks like those days must come to an end. We’ve all heard about the dangers of chemicals released from heated plastic, but it never crossed my mind that each time I use my Keurig I am heating the plastic K-cup with boiling water.

When I found out I was pregnant, I made a point to cut down my use of plastic products to decrease my risk of exposure to BPA. I got rid of all my plastic containers and bottles, replacing everything with glass. Looks like I’ll be getting rid of my Keurig now :-(. For all those mammas or mammas-to-be, start brewing your coffee fresh. If you do not want to get rid of your Keurig, you can get a reusable stainless steel K-cup. Another alternative to your quick morning coffee is using a french press or a single serve coffee maker.
