I got this sweater dress for Layla for Thanksgiving from Baby Gap. Initially she wore it as a dress with stockings but now it serves as a great sweater with leggings for our windy SoCal days. I love getting multiple uses out of Layla’s clothes because kids grow out of stuff so fast!

Another sweater dress moccs kind of day! Sweater dress: #gap Jeggings: #oldnavy Shoes: #freshlypicked Bow: #forever21 (adult accessory)

I like to give Layla eggs at least every other day because its a good source of protein and the yolk is rich in iron. Usually I make scrambled because its easier for her to pick up the chunks. With every meal I give her a side of fruit as well.

Weekend Recap

Layla and I had a busy week last week, so we took it easy this weekend. On Saturday we took a quick trip to Ikea…I am in the works of setting up a little kitchen corner for Layla and wanted to see what Ikea had (as soon as I get everything, I’ll make sure to post some pics). Layla basically turned Ikea in to her own little playground and whats an Ikea trip without some ice cream? This was Layla’s first time trying ice cream at Ikea. IMG_0267IMG_0263

After we met up with some friends and got some amazing cake from Susie’s Cakes (if you live in SoCal you must go)!. Layla was a huge fan of all their colorful delicious looking cupcakes.

On Sunday Layla hung out with her cousins while I did some grocery shopping and made her fruit pouches for the week. I promise to get the recipe up later this week. I use the Infantino Squeeze Station to make my own homemade pouches.

After we went on a picnic with some friends…Layla ran around for three hours, burnt some energy and passed out!

Quick and Easy Organic French Toast Breakfast

IMG_0097We are all about breakfast in our household…if you can tell! But with work and play date schedules we’re always on a time crunch so I’ve tried to find quick but hearty breakfasts I can make for the whole family! We all love French Toast and eggs and this recipe literally takes under two minutes to make.

What you need: 3 eggs, 3 pieces of toast (any kind you like…we use multigrain, but some like cinnamon or other sweet breads), cinnamon, milk and maple syrup. I like to use all organic products.

1. Beat 3 eggs and apx 2 tblsp of milk (you can add 1/2 tspn of vanilla and 1/2 tspn of brown sugar for a sweeter egg batter)

2. Soak your toast in the mix for apx 1 min (make sure to get both sides)

3. Cook both sides on a heated skillet and your done!

4. Sprinkle with cinnamon and your favorite maple syrup

I made scrambled eggs with the leftover egg batter. I like Layla to have fruit with every meal so this AM we had fresh squeezed organic OJ. IMG_0099

Lunches Around the World

slide_405630_5063818_freeI just came across this article posted in the Huffington Post comparing lunches served in schools around the world versus the US and wanted to share it with all of you. It’s so important what we feed our children. After getting pregnant, Keyvan and I really tried to change our diet at home, buying mostly (if not all) organic non-processed products. Now, especially that Layla eats everything we do, it’s even more important that we are aware of foods we have in the house. Unfortunately I can’t always control what she will eat and I try not to be too picky when we are out…I’m not going to stop her from enjoying ice cream at Disneyland or having french fries… but I do get nervous thinking how bad the food could be that she will potentially one day receive at school every single day. Just comes to show you why we are a leading country in obesity and cancer. I really hope a greater effort is taken to change the foods that are offered to our children. It is important to instill healthy eating habits in our kids from a young age.

Getting in the Valentines Day Spirit

With Valentines Day coming up next weekend, we’ve been trying to get in to the Valentines Day spirit this week! Layla and I put up a few decorations around the house. I got this sign for above our fireplace from Target. fireplace

This weekend, we made some yummy Valentines Day cookies using our organic Honest Company sugar cookie mix. It came with Layla’s Christmas diaper bundle, but we had it delivered a little later so we didn’t get a chance to use the mix over the holidays and used it now instead. We ended up eating most of the cookies ourselves and sharing a few with our neighbors.flowerscooki3cook8

Layla had a play date yesterday, so we made these Valentines Day goodie bags for her to give to her friends. I filled them with a coloring book, crayons, a Hot Wheels car (Layla loves these) and chocolate (which the kids shouldn’t be eating, but the box was so mini and cute)…a small Valentine for her to share with her friends.goodiebaginside

For her play date, I wanted her to wear something a little Valentiney (not a word I know). I just bought her these overalls from Target and really wanted her to wear them. I have always been obsessed with baby’s in overalls and finally got Layla a pair. I paired her overalls with a top she had from Gap thats red with white hearts. I must say she looked darn sweet!

Lastly, this morning, we practiced our Valentines Day breakfast we want to make on Saturday. I made scrambled eggs, hash-browns and toast, then used my cookie cutters to make everything heart shaped.  I think this weekend I will add some heart shaped pancakes too! We are obsessed with breakfast in this house!FullSizeRender

What are your Valentines Day plans???

Recipe: Easy Organic 3 Cheese Mac and Cheese

IMG_5998 IMG_5993 IMG_6003 IMG_6021Layla loves anything with cheese. Yesterday she had a lot of protein with her lunch so I figured I would give her a vegetarian dinner, so I made her a quick and easy mac and cheese with a side of broccolini aka baby broccoli. I like using broccolini because the florets are smaller and the stalks are longer so it makes it easier for Layla to feed herself. For the mac and cheese, I had three different types of organic cheese so I mixed it with some pasta, milk and sliver of butter and dinner was made. Layla loved it!

Three cheese organic mac and cheese:

1. Boil 1/2 a cup of organic pasta (I like using Trader Joes Organic Vegetable Radiatore pasta) until cooked completely and drain.

2. Add 2 tablespoons of each: shredded mozzarella, shredded monterey jack and fresh parmesan (I only use organic cheeses, but you can substitute with any type of cheese you like)

3. Add 1 teaspoon of butter and 4 tablespoons of milk

4. Stir until creamy

5. Serve with your little ones favorite veggies and/or protein

Weekend recap!

I worked 5 straight nights this week! This was the first time I have had to work nights since having Layla. It was actually not as bad as I had anticipated, minus the fact I have slept approximately 4 hours per day. I don’t know how I am still alive but somehow motherhood prepares you for anything. Prior to this week, I was so fearful that I would not get to see Layla enough because of my schedule but actually being gone while she is asleep at night allowed me to spend most of the day with her…the time I should have been sleeping ;-). Daddy had to take the load of waking up at 5:30 AM everyday…yes that is when Layla chooses to start her day every single day, so we were all pretty exhausted this weekend. Fortunately, we had no set plans this weekend, so we just relaxed. Saturday we went to Balboa Island and had some ice cream and walked around by the water. Sunday we were lazy most of the day in our PJ’s and only changed in to some sweats aka yoga attire and went to the grocery store. Otherwise we lounged around the house and played (and I did laundry of course). It was so nice to just relax a little with both of my loves.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel Confirm They Are Having a BABY!

Justin Timberlake posted the sweet picture of Jessica Biel’s pregnant belly with the caption “Thank you EVERYONE for the Bday wishes! This year, I’m getting the GREATEST GIFT EVER. CAN’T WAIT,” confirming the speculations that they are expecting. That’s going to be one good looking kid ;-).
